Last night I went to sleep before 9 p.m.

I was tired. It was a long and strange day. After shopping in the morning (at Target and Hastings), we headed back to my dad's and I did some work while my dad made cupcakes and chocolate cake. I'm not kidding. I helped him frost the cake but was criticized for not putting enough double fudge chocolate on the chocolate cake. My dad's cabinet is filled with chocolate Duncan Hines cake mix and 6 - I counted - varieties of chocolate frosting. In addition to the double fudge chocolate, there's fudge chocolate, milk chocolate, classic chocolate and dark chocolate. he's promised to bake another chocolate cake when Kelly arrives on Thursday.
For lunch, my dad, brothers and I went to Sonic Burger. I don't believe there are Sonic's in L.A. and I can't really say it's a shame, but Sonic does have two things going for it - they make real Vanilla Cokes (not the premade Vanilla Coke that you can buy at the grocery store) and they serve tater tots. Both were delicious.
It's now Day 2 and after being awaken by my brother at 6:50 a.m. Arizona time, 8:30 California time (according to him), I've already showered and have been down to Target and back. I'm getting ready to drink Folgers coffee and eat breakfast. There aren't any coffee places near my parent's house. I have no car and even if I did, I don't think I could find my way back to my mom's new place. The streets here don't go straight, they turn and curve and then abruptly end. I'm trying to memorize Christmas decorations outside of houses so that if I borrow my brother's car, I'll be able to find my way home. The only problem is these white, wired deers are quite popular this year and outside of every other house. On the plus side, the houses are all different in my parents neighborhood, however there are no streetlights so I can't really see them in the dark to tell where I am.

Purple Mountain Majesty

I'm back in Arizona for the holidays. Fa La La. landed in Tucson yesterday evening and, yes, the mountains did look purple in the sunset. Arizona is very pretty. there's just not much to do once you've taken in the view. Tucson, and Sierra Vista, where my family lives, are high desert, so it's colder here than in say Phoenix and higher elevation means you get drunk faster - something I plan to take advantage of to make it through the holidays.
It's a little cooler than L.A. today, but not too much. No snow this year, but it's happened in years past. Yes people decorate outside cacti with Christmas lights but it really isn't that weird when you are here - or probably even in L.A. Sierra Vista is a big small town with a suburban feel. Everything is stuccoed, either beige or southwestern pink. When I lived here, there was one main street - Fry Blvd. Now there are two.
My parents live just outside town by the mountains. Usually at this time of year, you can see the waterfall running from their houses, but not this year.
My two brothers and I sat out on lawn chairs in the backyard last night drinking hot chocolate and watching for meteors. We didn't catch any.
This morning, I'm heading to my Dad's house for breakfast, then my brothers will force me to play twister. ALL DAY LONG.....
